Bollywood & Ganesh Chaturthi!
Remember last years’ redux of Agneepath starring Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt? There was a dramatic choreographed scene with a large idol of lord Ganesha amidst chants of ‘Deva Shree Ganesha’, which renewed faith in the supreme deity to people watching the movie. Songs devoted to lord Ganesha in Bollywood are numerous, but one the most memorable ones is a track from Humse Badkar Kuan, wherein Mohammad Rafi and Sailendra Singh added that traditionalist touch to it, completely in sync with the film. Another memorable hit song devoted lord Ganesha was Deva Ho Deva in 1989 in the film Ilaaka, sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle and featured a scintillating dance sequence by megastars of the time: Madhuri Dixit and Mithun Chakraborty.
This all-pervasive God has always enamored Bollywood stars of today and yesteryears to bring them good fortune. During previous years, most of the megastars sought their blessings in Mumbai’s bigger pandals; starting from the Big B himself, Bipasha Basu, Kangana Raut, Shilpa Shetty, Hema Malini and Shankar Mahadevan at the famed Lalbaugcha Raja temple. Big B’s daughter in law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her family prayed at the Siddhi Vinayak Temple. It seems that this God’s magnetic personality attracts even the megastars. In 2011, Shilpa Shetty and her husband went to the Chinchpokli Ganpati Pandal, while Shilpa Shetty got an idol of Lord Ganesh for her new home at Juhu for the first time.
Many of Bollywood’s heartthrobs celebrate Ganeshotsav in their own homes. Last year, B-Town’s celebrities flocked Salman Khan’s Galaxy apartments to usher in the festivities. Prominent members of the stardom were Priety Zinta, Bipasha Basu, Sridevi, Karisma Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor. Other bigwigs who turned up to offer prayers to Ganpati were Salman’s parents Salim and Salma Khan, brothers Sohail and Arbaaz and sisters Arpita and Alvira.
Although actor Salman Khan is known to celebrate Ganeshotsav at his apartment for more than a decade, according to the grapevine he will not be bringing the idol to his home this year as his house is under renovation. Instead, he will bring the idol of lord Ganpati to his Panvel farmhouse with lots of fanfare, with sisters Alvira and Arrpita looking into the food and decoration arrangements.
